| Title : “Frozen Foes- A Cryotherapy Success in Managing Giant Genital Warts in Pregnancy” Author: Dr Amogh Kirtane Co-authors: Dr Pradnya Joshi, Dr Isha Kane Rajiv Gandhi medical college and CSMH ,Kalwa, Introduction: Genital warts (condyloma acuminata) may present as giant lesions in pregnancy, where hormonal and immune changes accelerate growth, sometimes obstructing the birth canal. Management during pregnancy is challenging because several standard treatment modalities (e.g., podophyllin, imiquimod) are contraindicated. Thus, it is vital to choose a modality that is both safe and rapidly effective to reduce wart size before the expected date of delivery to make vaginal delivery possible and ensure favorable maternal and fetal outcomes. Case report: 34 years old female, primigravida, 5 months of gestation presented with extensive genital warts involving labia majora, labia minor, perineum and perianal area. Patient was treated with cryotherapy at 2 weeks intervals for the first 2 months following which there was minimal reduction in wart size. The frequency of sessions was increased thereafter to once a week for the next 3 months after which the patient showed a dramatic response and complete clearance was achieved with 15 sessions over 5 months. Discussion & Conclusion: Cryotherapy can be used as a monotherapy for genital warts.Additionally, it is a cost-effective and safe treatment during pregnancy, making it a suitable first-line option for managing giant genital warts in pregnancy. |
